Group and private backcountry tours are easily available in Myoko (as well as Madarao Kogen, Shiga Kogen & Nozawa Onsen). These Myoko backcountry day tours and lessons start from 22,500 yen per person and are run by a well established operation with experienced Myoko backcountry guides. Myoko backcountry tours usually run mid-Jan to mid-March but may vary due to lift operation circumstances. The route will be chosen and customised by your guide to match your skill & experience level.
Backcountry guides in Myoko Kogen are familiar with the terrain, weather conditions, and avalanche risks in the area. They can provide a safe and enjoyable experience for backcountry enthusiasts of all skill levels.
Across all skill levels these Myoko back country tours features easy access and great tree riding, making Myoko your first choice for Japan backcountry adventures. The terrain allows for a plethora of route options ranging from lift access short hike powder bowls to long run touring with something for all levels and styles. Typically the season starts early January and the best snow lasts until early March, but there are always a few surprisingly good days in March. Most local tours tend to explore the deep powder fields by first heading up the lift line.

Important Information
Dates
Backcountry tours for Myoko Kogen run Jan 15th – March 15th (8.00 – 4.30pm) but may vary due to lift operation circumstances and snow depth. Contact us for possible tours outside these dates
Costs
Private tours start at 90,000*, or group tours at 22,500 per person for full day tours.
*Price based on a 4 person tour, +22500 JPY per extra person. Multi day discounts for private tours

The route will be chosen and customised by your guide to match your skill & experience level
Beginner
This is the perfect introductory tour to backcountry touring. Learn how to use the gear and access some easy untracked terrain to master those powder turns in the Myoko backcountry.
Intermediate
If you have been BC before and want to get away from the crowds to find those secret stashes then look no further. We have the goods!
Expert
If you are looking for a BIG day of backcountry Myoko ski touring, have plenty of experience and are a high level rider, then one of our expert routes is for you.
Need to know:
- Minimum of 2 people required to run tour;
- Age 13 and older + Intermediate level ski/snowboarder or above;
- Participants under 20 must have signature of guardian or parent;
- A moderate level of fitness is required. The fitter the group the more extensive the touring options;
- Bring: Ski/Board, Boots, Ski clothing, Gloves, Helmet,Goggles, ski poles with BIG baskets, drink, snacks, sandwich/food;
- Meeting time and place: As per your confirmation
- Included: Professional guide, avalanche transceiver, probe & shovel;
- Not included: skis/snowboard, lift ticket, lunch or insurance.
- Please ensure your travel insurance will cover any circumstances that may occur during your tour.

Powder Recon
Historically, Powder Recon has only provided guided tours for their own clients as part of their accommodation and lift pass packages, but now runs daily guided tours for walk in groups. Guided day trips can be arranged at the Powder Recon office building and include pickup and transfer for you and your friends via your very own private 4WD van to one of the many neighbouring resorts around Myoko Kogen. Myoko Snowsports
If you’re looking to experience the best powder Akakura has to offer then the private Powder Program at Myoko Snowsports is for you. An 8:30am start time gets you the freshest snow, and your instructor will guide you around the resort’s hidden powder areas. Suitable for both first-time powder skiers/snowboarders looking for their first try, plus also for experienced off-piste riders wanting to explore the deepest areas. More info here.
Deep Powder Snowboard Tours
Deep Powder Snowboard Ninja tours will provide local snowboard guiding depending on your skill level. These tours are not a backcountry tour, but an inbounds guided powder tour. Tour staff are local, well known and qualified snowboard instructors. The company owners also run Senke Hotel in Akakura. Book here.
Itadaki Tours
